FAQ

At our factory, we make coconut shell charcoal through a careful process with several steps:

  • Collecting Coconuts: First, we collect only naturally aged coconuts. Fresh coconuts are not good for making charcoal. We make sure the coconuts are dried in the sun and naturally aged before we use them.
  • Preparing the Shells: After collecting the coconuts, we remove the "hair" around them and cut the shells into smaller pieces. We also remove the inner part of the coconut, called copra, and the coconut water. It is important to keep the coconut water away from the shells because it can make the ash color very dark.
  • Drying the Shells: The prepared coconut shells are then cleaned and dried to lower the moisture content below 15 percent.
  • Carbonization: Next, the dried coconut shells are heated in a carbonization furnace at temperatures between 250-450°C in a low-oxygen environment. This process changes the shells into charcoal over about 6 hours.
  • Cooling: After the carbonization, the charcoal is slowly cooled in the furnace to prevent it from catching fire when it is exposed to air.
  • Sorting and Quality Control: After cooling, the charcoal is moved on a conveyor belt to sorting tables. Here, workers check the charcoal by hand to remove any impurities, "coconut hairs," and parts that did not carbonize properly.
  • Crushing: The carbonized coconut shell charcoal is then crushed and ground into a fine powder.
  • Mixing: The charcoal powder is mixed with a binder, often corn starch, and water to make a consistent mixture.
  • Briquetting: The mixture is then shaped into briquettes using a molding machine or by hand.
  • Drying the Briquettes: The briquettes are dried to remove any remaining moisture.
  • Packaging: Finally, the finished coconut shell charcoal briquettes are packaged and ready for sale.

This process turns waste coconut shells into a valuable, eco-friendly fuel. This fuel has a high heat output and burns for a long time. The steps of carbonization and briquetting are very important to make high-quality coconut shell charcoal.

Coconut shell charcoal has many different uses across various industries:

  • Fuel Source:
    • It is used as an alternative to regular charcoal for barbecues and cooking because it burns quickly and has a pleasant smell.
    • It can replace wood, kerosene, and other fossil fuels as a cleaner fuel.
    • It is also used in industrial boilers.
  • Activated Carbon Production:
    • Coconut shell charcoal can be turned into activated carbon. This activated carbon is used for cleaning water, filtering air, and as a detoxifying agent.
  • Food and Beverage Industry:
    • It is commonly used in barbecues and traditional cooking.
    • In Middle Eastern countries, it is burned to heat shisha.
  • Health and Beauty Applications:

The versatility and eco-friendly nature of coconut shell charcoal make it a popular choice for many different uses across various industries.

Indonesian coconut shell charcoal is known for its superior quality for several reasons:

  • High-Quality Raw Material:
Indonesia is a leading producer of coconuts, providing plenty of high-quality coconut shells. The best charcoal is made from old, sun-dried coconut shells, which are easy to find in Indonesia.
  • Unique Properties:
Indonesian coconut shell charcoal is very bright in color and has a very low ash content. This is especially important for shisha charcoal manufacturing, as it means you don't need to use any varnish or coloring agents to make the ash look bright. The low ash content is also beneficial for the activated carbon industry because it helps reduce production costs.
  • Versatility:
It is used in many industries, including metallurgy, water treatment, agriculture, and food.
  • Eco-Friendly Nature:
Coconut shell charcoal is a natural by-product of the coconut industry, making it environmentally friendly and sustainable.
  • Consistent Quality:
Indonesian manufacturers often follow strict production standards, ensuring that the charcoal is consistently high in quality.
  • Absorption Capacity:
Indonesian coconut shell charcoal is known for its excellent ability to absorb contaminants, improve taste, and reduce chlorine in water filtration systems.
  • Burning Characteristics:
It burns hotter and longer than traditional charcoal and produces less smoke, making it ideal for cooking and industrial uses.
  • Variety of Forms:
Indonesian producers offer coconut shell charcoal in different forms, such as granular charcoal, briquettes, and activated carbon, to meet various industry needs.
  • Cost-Effectiveness:
Because Indonesia has plenty of raw materials and well-established production processes, its coconut shell charcoal often offers good value for its quality.

These factors help explain why Indonesian coconut shell charcoal is so highly regarded in the global market.

Yes, coconut shell charcoal is generally safe for the environment. Here are the reasons why:

  • Uses Waste:
Coconut shell charcoal is made from the shells of coconuts. These shells are usually thrown away. By using them to make charcoal, we reduce waste.
  • Helps Save Trees:
Coconut shell charcoal can replace wood charcoal. This helps protect forests because fewer trees need to be cut down.
  • Traps Carbon:
Coconut trees take in carbon dioxide as they grow. When we use the shells for charcoal, we keep this carbon trapped instead of letting it go back into the air.
  • Less Smoke:
Coconut shell charcoal burns cleaner than wood charcoal. It makes less smoke and fewer harmful gases. This means cleaner air and better health.
  • Renewable Energy:
Coconut shell charcoal comes from a renewable source. It is a better choice than fossil fuels, which take millions of years to form.
  • Simple Process:
Making coconut shell charcoal usually needs fewer chemicals than making other types of charcoal. This means it is more natural.
  • Good for Soil:
The ash from burning coconut shell charcoal can be used as fertilizer. This helps make the soil better for growing crops.

Even though making coconut shell charcoal can have some impact on the environment, new methods are making it better. When it is made and used the right way, coconut shell charcoal is a good choice for the environment.

We source our coconut shells from our own farm and local farmers. Here’s how we do it:

  • Own Farm:
We have been an Indonesian manufacturer and exporter of coconut charcoal since 2016. We own coconut tree plantations with over 20,000 palm trees. This allows us to control the quality of the coconut shells from the very start.
  • Burning Facilities:
We operate two burning facilities located in Halmahera and the Java Islands. Our production capacity is 15 tons of raw coconut shell charcoal per day.
  • Local Farmers:
We also work with local farmers on the islands of Halmahera and Sulawesi. These farmers provide us with high-quality coconut shells that meet our standards.
  • Sustainable Practices:
We make sure that our sourcing practices are sustainable. By using coconut shells that are a byproduct of the coconut industry, we help reduce waste and support local communities.
  • Certified Quality:
We are an ISO 9001-certified manufacturer, which ensures that our production process meets high standards of quality and consistency.

By combining our own resources with those of local farmers, we ensure a steady supply of high-quality coconut shells for our charcoal production.

The process of collecting and manufacturing coconut shell charcoal at our factory involves several key steps:

  • Collecting Coconut Shells:
We start by collecting coconut shells from our own farm and from local farmers. Our farm has over 20,000 palm trees, and we also work with farmers on the islands of Halmahera and Sulawesi. The shells are a byproduct of the coconut industry.
  • Cleaning and Drying:
The collected coconut shells are cleaned to remove any dirt or debris. They are then dried to reduce moisture content, which is important for making high-quality charcoal.
  • Carbonization:
The dried coconut shells are placed in a carbonization furnace at our burning facilities in Halmahera and the Java Islands. The shells are heated in a low-oxygen environment, which turns them into charcoal. This process takes several hours and ensures that the charcoal is rich in carbon.
  • Cooling:
After carbonization, the charcoal is slowly cooled in the furnace. This helps prevent the charcoal from igniting when it comes into contact with air.
  • Crushing and Sizing:
The cooled charcoal is then crushed and ground into different sizes, depending on the intended use. For example, shisha charcoal may require smaller pieces, while activated carbon production may need different sizes.
  • Quality Control:
Each batch of charcoal undergoes strict quality control checks. We test the ash content, moisture content, and carbon content in both our in-house laboratory and an independent lab. We are an ISO 9001-certified manufacturer, ensuring high standards are met.
  • Packaging:
The final step is packaging the charcoal. We offer custom packaging and labeling options for bulk orders, including OEM and private label packaging.

By following this detailed process, we ensure that our coconut shell charcoal is of the highest quality, suitable for a wide range of applications.

We follow several environmental standards in our coconut shell charcoal production to reduce the impact on the environment:

  • Sustainable Sourcing:
We use coconut shells, a waste product from the coconut industry, instead of cutting down trees. This helps protect forests and uses a renewable resource.
  • Emissions Control:
Our machines have systems that control waste emissions. These systems manage exhaust gases, wastewater, and solid waste during the carbonization process. This helps reduce air and water pollution.
  • Energy Efficiency:
We use modern technology to control the temperature during production. This helps us use energy more efficiently.
  • Waste Reduction:
By turning coconut shell waste into charcoal, we reduce agricultural waste that would otherwise be thrown away.
  • Clean Burning Fuel:
The coconut shell charcoal we produce burns cleaner than traditional wood charcoal. It makes less smoke and fewer harmful gases.
  • Worker Safety:
We follow safety rules and provide training to protect our workers from dangers in the charcoal production process.
  • Localized Production:
When possible, we build our production facilities near coconut processing centers. This helps reduce emissions from transportation.
  • Continuous Improvement:
We keep up with the latest sustainable practices in charcoal production. We always try to improve our environmental performance.

Yes, our coconut shell charcoal is sustainably produced. Here’s how:

  • Using Waste Materials:
We make our charcoal from coconut shells, which are a waste product from the coconut industry. By using these shells, we reduce waste and do not need to cut down trees.
  • Protecting Forests:
Because we use coconut shells instead of wood, we help protect forests and reduce deforestation.
  • Efficient Production:
We use modern technology to make our charcoal. This technology helps us use energy efficiently and reduce emissions during production.

We handle byproducts from the coconut shell charcoal manufacturing process in a responsible way:

  • Main Byproducts:
The main byproducts are copra, coconut water, and coconut "hairs."
  • Copra:
We sell the copra, which is the inner part of the coconut, to vegetable oil manufacturers. They use it to make coconut oil.
  • Coconut Water:
We cannot use the coconut water, so it is safely drained into the waste system.
  • Coconut "Hairs":
The coconut "hairs" are used to make cocopeat, which is a natural growing medium often used in gardening.
  • Reusing and Recycling:
Almost all of the byproducts from the coconut are reused. This helps reduce waste and makes our process more sustainable.

By carefully managing these byproducts, we ensure that nearly every part of the coconut is used in some way.

Our minimum order quantity (MOQ) is 12 tons. Here are some additional details:

  • 20-foot Container Capacity:
A 20-foot container can hold 12 to 13 tons of coconut shell charcoal.
